Anyone else watching both Love Island USA and Love Island UK? Welcome to the chaos. And if you’ve noticed that the Islanders on the UK version don’t spend a lot of time eating on camera, we have some answers from execs.

During a panel Q&A, one producer explained why no one eats on camera, telling the audience, “Everyone always asks for lunch to be filmed and dinner to be filmed. Is this something you guys want? Actually we’ve tried it… and the chat is shit. There’s no chat because they’re all literally eating.”

He added, “I think the idea of it is brilliant and we’ll continue to film it. If the chat is good we’ll show it but quite often people are just really enjoying eating. But we’ll try. Last series we tried loads… maybe. Maybe.”

I mean, fair enough—but so much happens during mealtime even in terms of body language that it seems worth it to analyze that footage with a fine-tooth comb! Either way, fans want more, with comments on this TikTok ranging from “Honestly just make a 24 hour live stream” to “Some of the best bits are unseen, rather that then the boring can I pull you for a chat.”

Exactly this. Fortunately, Love Island is airing live (on a slight delay), so there’s still time for producers to include more footage of mealtime. Give the people what they want!
